Patient Advocacy & Access
At Insmed, serving patients means more than developing medicines – it means building support ecosystems, understanding barriers to care, and aligning our goals with the needs of patients and caregivers.
Putting patient needs at the center
Our patient advocacy and engagement efforts connect us directly to those we serve, at every stage of our work — ensuring real-world needs drive our science and strategy. We believe this approach delivers research that’s more relevant, clinical trials that are more accessible, and outcomes that reflect our patient-first goals.
Our Patient Advocacy and Engagement team works to build meaningful relationships with patient organizations that allow us to learn directly from those living with serious and rare diseases. Through these efforts, we’ve developed a patient engagement approach that integrates patient perspectives into our research, helping us to sharpen the questions we ask, design more patient-centered clinical trials, and address real-world barriers that patients and caregivers face every day.
Working hand in hand with nonprofit and professional organizations, our aim is to promote better outcomes across the broader patient community — advancing their missions while staying true to our patient-first goals.
Access to our medicines
At Insmed, access to our therapies for appropriate patients is essential to our mission and built into our strategy from the earliest stages of drug development. Through proactive payor engagement, managed access programs (MAPs), targeted investments in patient support, and other strategies, we believe that the right patients should have access to the right medicines.
In countries where we operate, we aim to price our medicines responsibly, benchmarking against innovative therapies for similar patient populations and recognizing the significant value our medicines bring to previously underserved patients.
Payors are a critical component in access, and we actively educate payors to support broad, sustainable access. We engage appropriately and compliantly with payors to:
- Educate on disease awareness.
- Conduct pre-approval information exchange that outlines important aspects of our product candidates including critical data from our clinical trials.
- Monitor coverage criteria and provide scientific evidence to payors to support clinically relevant prescription policy decision making.
Managed access policy
Insmed offers certain MAPs to extend access to therapies for patients with serious diseases when participating in a clinical trial is not feasible or when a patient has already completed a clinical trial. Our MAP policy supports a proactive, globally consistent approach to evaluate access needs. We regularly evaluate our MAPs and policies and are committed to making updates when needed to best support patients.
U.S. patient support program
Insmed also offers a U.S. patient support program, inLighten®, built around the real experiences of patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals (HCPs). Through inLighten, eligible patients are provided with educational resources and other support throughout their treatment journey.
